A few years ago, Jaisalmer Municipality was made a Municipal Council. The Municipal Corporation also did not issue leases to the people of Jayanarayan Vyas Kachchi Basti and the Municipal Council officials also ignored them. While surveys have also been conducted in 1998 and 2004, survey numbers have also been established. Later, leases were issued to the people of Basi Gafoor Bhatta and Babar Magra Basti, whereas the reasonable demands of the people of Jayanarayan Vyas Colony Ward 20 Kachchi Basti are not being accepted. In such a situation, the people of the colony have become disappointed. The people sitting on the dharna said that they also met the collector several times, but no action was taken. In such a situation, they will not end the strike until they get concrete assurance.

Municipal Council officials say that the colony is not in the master plan and the land is in the cemetery, while leases have been issued to the BJP office and Jagani Bhawan. People troubled by this problem have been protesting for the last 25 days, but they are not being heard. The people of the colony told that they have been living in the colony for 40 years and they have ration cards in their names and also have light connections. There is also water connection. But despite this the city council is not issuing leases. Whereas leases were also issued to the residents of Gafoor Bhatta and Babar Magra settled 15 years ago.

Rajveer Parmar said that in this government, those with money are heard. There is no one to listen to the poor. Both the city council and the earlier municipality have ignored the colonists. It has been 40 years since the people of the slum have been living, but no one is listening to the poor. Whereas the people of the colony have met the MLA, Minister and District Chief. Tired of giving memorandum to the administration and city council officials, disappointment is visible everywhere. Parmar told that about 300 families are living in our colony, those who are rich and have access, their leases have been made. How did BJP office and Jagani Bhawan get leases here? The Municipal Council says that the colony is in the cemetery land, hence leases cannot be issued, whereas leases were issued to the BJP office and Jagani Panchayat Bhawan. Why this double standard?

Officials are not listening, leaders are ignoring

The people of the colony said that the officials are not listening to them and the leaders are ignoring them. People who have been living here for 40 years are not being heard anywhere. We have appealed to even the MLA and the Minister, but no hearing is being held anywhere. The people of the colony told that they have been protesting peacefully for 25 days, but no one listened to them during these 25 days. Administration officials also did not talk to him. Despite repeated representations, no assurance was received. It is being said again and again that your colony is in the cemetery land and lease cannot be issued. Many governments have come and gone, it has been more than 40 years since people have been living there, but till date the leases have not been made. In such a situation, people's patience is breaking and they have made up their mind to fight an all-out battle.
